‘I want to make everyone aware of the importance of safety and security’

Being able to work safely and healthily. That’s what HSE manager Miranda Janssen and her team focus on every day. ‘Safety and security is the number one priority at Heras. We ensure it is and stays a top-of-mind topic throughout the organisation. But we are also responsible for the continuation of permits and certifications, and compliance with legislation and regulations.’

Improving safety and security is one of the biggest challenges within the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) department. ‘In addition, we also aim to raise Heras to a higher level in areas such as the environment, sustainability, and occupational health and safety. To this end we formulate proposals for improvement. We also focus on creating a support base and commitment, which is essential in order for us to implement our HSE system successfully. We are involved at every level of the organisation to ensure that everyone is aware of the importance of safety and security.’

Preventing accidents

Janssen sets high standards. ‘My aim is to achieve the highest level of service and I’m committed one hundred percent to my work. Company interests come first. I never lose sight of this. Sometimes, out-of-the-box thinking means that existing procedures and work methods need to be reviewed with a critical eye. Everything I do is geared towards accident prevention. It’s my job to ensure everyone goes home safely at the end of the day.’

Working based on a vision

Thanks to her background as a lawyer, Janssen has a great deal of subject-related expertise on environmental and administrative law issues. ‘I also have a track record in achieving results in my field, organising and implementing projects and providing structure, both in the short and in the long term. I always try to look ahead and work according to a vision.’

Implementing improvement projects

Janssen is proud of the improved safety culture and level within Heras. ‘We achieved this improvement working in a project-based manner in cooperation with Production and Logistics. Culture change was a big part of it. We’ve made huge leaps forward in a short time.’
